SHORNE, WITH THONG AND MERSTON. -
Shorne is a joint parish with Merston, three miles and a half S.E. from Gravesend, and four miles N.W. from Rochester. The church of St. Peter and St. Paul contains
a fine monument, to the memory of Henry de Cobham, of the time of Edward II. The living is a vicarage; the Rev. Jacob Joseph Marsham is vicar. The population in 1851 was 984.

Thong is a hamlet of Shorne, one mile west.
