Angel Inn & Hotel, 1 Islington High Street, Clerkenwell, London

Clerkenwell index

This pub was purchased in 1921 by Lyons of Corner House fame and opened in 1922 as the Angel Café Restaurant. In the early 1960s it was acquired by the London County Council. Today it is a branch of the Co-operative Bank but this pub's fame lives on as it gave its name to the underground station (opposite) and the area, which features on the UK Monopoly board. ***
