Hanbury Street, East London.
The Jack the Ripper story is exceedingly well documented by many at casebook.org - what a brilliant site. There are many amateur sleuths, and a whole host of detectives to the highest ranks on this site.
I just like to recreate some facts, in a simple format, e.g. a timeline of Hanbury Street; and its residents, and its Pubs in London.
A good start is to look at the Trade Directories and census available for these years. Starting with 1841, through the 1850's to about 1944 a hundred years later. Referring back to Hanbury Street - see map.
I have current access to Trade Directories of 1882 and later that show Hanbury Street as a rather long road. About 25 years earlier [1856] it is split into four separate sections, and entirely different road names.
These four roads are : -
Browns Lane [2-26 Hanbury Street & 3 - 39 Hanbury Street]
Montague Street (aka New Montague Street)
The historical directory listing will use these as a base.
