If you can supply any good material to this site, please contact me - full acknowledgements AND links back to your site (if required) are added to the page. I am always interested in any good pictures, or personal genealogical details of a Public House.
There are many excellent sources of information already available on the internet, many are well indexed in the good search engines (try different search engines, they offer different and often useful results), but often overlooked unless you are looking for a specific search item. here are a few of the better sites, from which I will always ask as to whether I can use any of their excellent resources. If the answer is 'no', then the excellent resources remain hidden on their site only.
Here are a number of Message Boards that I use or recommend.
1. I love Rootschat, it is a pure historical chat service for all of the UK, and aided by a great bunch of administrators and helpers.
2. Rootsweb index & HOW to get logged on to the necessary mailing lists. This also covers all of the country (& world), and has been running for a some time.
3. There was a company creating Census and Trade Directory CD's. It has now closed. There is still a chat board, which appears to be very active, although I found it asked too much information to get logged in (I would guess it is building up a mailing list).
Anyway, chat over - British Genealogy Chat Forum
4. Newham has a brilliant message board, although I have never added my name to the membership.
5. Who Do You Think You Are? A BBC board (or is it Channel 4). This looks good. I was contacted by the researchers for a project some months ago, they were very good at asking the right questions, but lacked any idea as to where to go next; and wanted it all handed on them on a plate. I was not impressed with the researchers, probably a bunch of kids.
6. Do you have a good message board? Preferably related to Pubs, but who cares. I will list it if it is better than those listed, which is probably not difficult.
7. Maps - there are a great deal of useful maps available on the internet - see the Maps page for some of the best, MAPCO has to be the best site, but there are others, and they are all free. Take a look at their paid advertising occasionally, it helps to cover their costs, and costs you nothing.
8. Romford has a brilliant Message Board - see Romford
