At Artillery Row in 1851 and up until 1881; listed at Green Coat Cottages up to 1884. I am reasonably convinced that all the following refer to the same pub, the one now on Greencoat Place (called Coburg Row until some time between 1908 and 1921) and featured here, though no doubt the building was altered quite a bit over the years. It was presumably named after the Green Coat School, or St Margaret’s Hospital, which stood next door to the old Tothill Fields Bridewell (see 1802 record). The little stub of an alley on the north side of the pub used to lead through to the school, and was called “Greencoat cottages” on Stanford’s 1862 map. In spite of the wide variety of addresses, I think the site remained almost the same: streets just came and went and got renamed all round it! The 1878 OS map has it one house away from the corner, so it could have moved 10 metres to the east in the last re-build. *

This reference provides another named landlord, but not a date when he was
in occupation: the date 27th January 1835 is the date when Mr Boothby was
declared bankrupt, so presumably he was landlord somewhat earlier, in 1834,
probably.

Her husband is down as licensee in the 1881 census, but she features in all
subsequent records. Did he die sometime in 1881 and she take over? In every
record after this, Emma Flury is given as Licensee, EXCEPT the Censuses of
1891 and 1901, when her husband is the Licensed Victualler. I cannot imagine
how this worked! *
