At 57 Wapping Wall in 1851 & 1891; It is believed to have been founded in 1520, this pub was initially called the Devil’s Tavern, being renamed the Prospect of Whitby in 1777. Between 1839 and 1851 at least it was briefly renamed Whitby Town before reverting to Prospect of Whitby, the name still in use today. **
