This pub closed in 2009 and has been converted to a betting shop. **

This pub was established as the Eight Bells in 1665 and later had the address 347 Mare Street. It was demolished in 1880 when the road junction and railway crossing was redeveloped and a replacement pub was built at 339 Mare Street, with the new name Railway Tavern.
It was again rebuilt in 1955 following wartime bomb damage. **
